A finely carved ancient Mesoamerican diety is featured in this well crafted vintage brooch from Taxco, made of 980 silver and faux jade, circa 1940s. 

The stunning brooch is handwrought from a high fineness of 980 silver (sterling is 925), and features a hand carved pre-Columbian Olmec face or mask of what appears to be dyed calcite or aventurine with variegated green and olive coloring in imitation of jade – and bezel set within a decorative round frame with silver scrollwork and beading.

The well sized pin measures approximately2&1/8 inches in size, weighs 34.3 grams, and is marked “Taxco”, and “980”.
